Hi all,

When I start with Alljoyn then it is supported WIFI and Bluetooth. And now, I want to know that how many physical network that Alljoyn aim to develop? (I also hear about WIFI-Direct which will be supported by Alljoyn). Because I'm developing an application base on some hardware which supported a lot of physical networks such as WIFI, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Z-Wave(in the near future). Thanks

Hi congngale,

Thank you for your interest in AllJoyn. When AllJoyn was started it used to support wired network, Wifi, Bluetooth and Wifi direct for a while, although the support for Wifi direct was not official. Bluetooth was supported on devices running the BlueZ protocol stack which meant mostly Linux desktops and most Android devices. This had a pre-requisite that we need root privileges on the device or the alljoyn routing node also called the alljoyn-daemon had to be pre-deployed by the device manufacturer. Currently, wired and Wifi network official support remains in place. The challenges in Bluetooth being used by AllJoyn given the pre-requisites it is no longer officially supported. Wifi direct code base is still present as a part of core code but it is disabled by default since when we tried to get Wifi direct working we found inconsistencies in their implementations from the specs. The behavior was different for different devices. This was one of the main reasons not putting out an official support. There are few people who are looking at Bluetooth but there is no official plans on that yet. As far as other transports go, it is an open area and any contributions would be a great enhancement to the scoop of AllJoyn. There are no known official ports of AllJoyn over Zigbee or Z-wave currently known to me. Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards, Nikhil
