AllJoyn Gateway Agent, Router and Xively
- With AllJoyn Gateway Agent can there be a discovery possible across 2 PAN's over the internet?
- Where to find for the router part of alljoyn in download page?
- How different is AllJoyn from Xively?
Hi - in answer to question 1 - yes absolutely. Affinegy was demonstrating doing this at IFA using our AllJoyn XMPP Connector which is soon to be contributed to AllSeen Alliance open source. This and Affinegy's cloud service called CHARIOT. This is a connector project for the Gateway Agent that was approved earlier this month and the code is complete and ready to contribute. Using the AllJoyn XMPP connector you can use a standard AllJoyn app remotely and it will behave as it it was still at home. You can also use the AllJoyn XMPP connector to connect two AllJoyn PANs to each other. The details are not yet posted in a project page, but the project proposal is available in the TSC meetings slides from early September.
For question 2 - the AllJoyn router is part of the AllJoyn core library. You should download the AllJoyn core libraries and the documentation for building.
For question 2 - Xively is a commercial cloud services platform. AllJoyn is a family of IOT protocols and applications. As I understand it, with Xively most connected devices connect directly to the cloud service using protocols like MQTT and REST APIs. With AllJoyn, most automation functions happen with peer to peer communication that stays in the local PAN. This helps to keep things fast as well as private with AllJoyn. You use the Gateway Agent to connect with external services. My company's CHARIOT cloud service competes will Xively, except we've built our service optimized for AllJoyn.
