AllJoyn Capabilities Inquiry

Hi, I am new to AllJoyn and have a couple of feasiblity questions.

I successfully downloaded the iOS and Android SDK's, compiled and installed the Sample Chat apps on a GalaxyS5 and iPod Touch and successfully chatted between them (using the AllChatz channel). Both devices had Bluetooth disabled and were connected to the same Access Point.

However, when I disconnected the devices from the Access Point, but kept WiFi turned on, the chat no longer worked. Is it possible using AllJoyn to connect and communicate between devices without an Access Point?

Or more to the point, my company is developing a Product that will have a WiFi radio. AllJoyn seems an ideal way to have an Android or iOS device be able to connect to it by loading the thin client into firmware. I saw there was a framework for connecting to it and being able to set up the WiFi Access Point credentials. But if the customer does not have and Access Point, would it still be possible to have an Android or iOS device connect to the product and communicate via WiFi (ie WiFi Direct?).

Any help starting me in the right direction here would be most appreciated!

Thanks David Griffith

Thanks for the reply! However, I am unclear what it means. Is WiFi Direct not suppoted in the Chat App, or by AllJoyn in general? Is there a way to get that functionality (two devices communicating without an Access Point) with AllJoyn but without WiFi Direct? There must be to some degree for the Onboarding service. Is Onboarding the only time you can commnuicate without an Access Point via WiFi with AllJoyn? Thanks in advance for any additional info you can provide!

WiFi Direct is not supported by AllJoyn in general. I don't know how the Onboarding service works.
